On behalf of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association, I want to express my sincere appreciation for being recognized as part of the 2026 Labor Power 100. This recognition is an honor, but I do not look at it as an individual achievement. It represents the strength, solidarity, and commitment of our entire union and, most importantly, the hardworking men and women of Local 831.
The labor movement has always been built on standing together. Our strength comes from our members who show up every day, do difficult and essential work, and stand united in protecting good jobs, fair wages, strong benefits, dignity, and respect in the workplace. As a labor organization, we will continue to fight for our members and their families. We will continue to stand up when our members need us, protect the benefits we have earned, and work to build a stronger future for the next generation of sanitation workers.
Our union is strong because our members are strong. Our voice is powerful because we stand together.
Thank you to City & State for this recognition and for highlighting the important work being done throughout New York’s labor movement. Most importantly, thank you to the members of Local 831 for your hard work, dedication, and continued solidarity.
In Unity,
Dennis J. Schock

WE REMEMBER. WE WILL NEVER FORGET
Local 831 stood together at the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to honor the lives we lost and the heroes who answered the call when our city needed them most.
September 11th is not just a date on a calendar. For many of us, it is a memory we carry with us of friends, brothers, sisters, family members, coworkers, and fellow New Yorkers whose lives were changed forever.
Our sanitation workers were there. Our first responders were there. Our union brothers and sisters were there doing what they do every day: showing up, standing together, and helping New York City.
We remember those we lost.
We remember those who served.
We remember the families who continue to carry that loss.
Local 831 will always remember. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
🕊️ September 11, 2001 — Forever in our hearts. 🕊️

GETTING THINGS DONE FOR OUR MEMBERS!
President Dennis J. Schock and Vice President Ronald Prattis continue to put in the work and make sure the voice of Local 831 is heard where it matters.
Working directly with Governor Kathy Hochul, our leadership continues to advocate for the hardworking men and women of Local 831 and for the issues that matter to working families.
Governor Hochul has a long record of working with and supporting New York’s labor movement, including meetings and events with labor organizations and participation in labor-related bill signings.
Strong leadership. Strong relationships. Strong union. President Schock and Vice President Prattis will continue to stand up, speak out, and work hard to get things done for our members.
Local 831 — United in Strength. United in Solidarity. United in Action.

STANDING STRONG FOR OUR MEMBERS!
President Dennis J. Schock and Vice President Ronald A Prattis continue to make sure the voice of Local 831 is heard where it matters.
Working together with Senator Robert Jackson, our leadership continues to advocate for working men and women, strong benefits, secure retirements, and the issues that directly affect our members and their families.
Senator Jackson’s leadership on the New York State Senate Civil Service and Pensions Committee makes these conversations especially important for public-sector workers. This is what union leadership is about — being at the table, building relationships, making our voice heard, and getting things done for our members.
President Dennis J Schock and Vice President Ronald A Prattis will continue to stand with our members and work with leaders who understand the importance of a strong labor movement.
Strong Leadership. Strong Relationships. Strong Union. Local 831 — United in Strength. United in Solidarity. United in Action.
