USA Local 831 was proud to be on the ground at SI-2 standing with the hardworking men and women of Staten Island — along with sanitation workers who traveled in from every borough to reinforce operations during the Blizzard of 2026.
This is union solidarity in action.
When SI-2 needed support, crews from across the city stepped up without hesitation. Long shifts. Brutal conditions. Over a foot of snow. Still piling. Still hauling. Still getting it done.
And let’s never forget — these are fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters operating these machines. They leave their families for days at a time to make sure this city gets back on track. While most are home staying warm, our members are out there in the freezing cold, doing what needs to be done.
They’re not doing it for themselves — they’re doing it for the city they serve and love.
From Staten Island to Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx — Local 831 moves as one. No matter the borough, no matter the storm, our members answer the call.
Blizzard 2026 brought the snow.

Storm operations aren’t just about plowing snow — they’re about protecting neighborhoods, keeping emergency routes open, and making sure New York City keeps moving no matter what Mother Nature throws at us.
We visited the garage during operations and witnessed firsthand the teamwork, grit, and professionalism that defines our workforce. Long hours. Freezing temps. Zero excuses.
